Dance Expectations

The 8th Grade Dress Up Dance is an exciting culminating event for our students as they make the leap together into high school. The important thing to remember is that this is a dress up dance, not a prom or semi-formal. It is not designed to be a date/limo/corsage/gown wearing event, but a time for 8th graders to come together and celebrate their time at the McCarthy.

1. Students are expected to be in school for a full day on the day of the dance. A doctor’s note would be required if the student had to leave school for an appointment.
2. No tuxedos/ formal prom dresses/ corsages.
3. Dates are not encouraged or necessary. This is not a prom.
4. This event is for current McCarthy 8th graders only - outside guests are not permitted.
5. The recommendations about what to wear are the same as they have been for the past several years at both Parker & McCarthy. Students not dressed in accordance with the dress code below will be asked to leave, and a parent will be required to pick them up. They may return if they are dressed appropriately.

Attire Expectations:

• Clothes should fit well, not too tight, not too loose.
• A shirt with a collar, and dress pants (We encourage students not to wear sweatpants/track pants or jeans).
• Dresses, or skirts and blouses. NO prom dresses. Halter tops and spaghetti straps are acceptable, but the dress must be middle-school appropriate including proper length and body coverage.
• Students should wear comfortable shoes!

Students must be picked up promptly at 9:00pm. School rules of conduct apply throughout the event.
